Every year the Golden Globes kicks off awards season and for the next month and a half my colleagues and I spend many a morning dissecting the good, the bad and the ugly. Of course the night we anticipate more than any other is the Oscars, when celebs bust out their very best red carpet looks. Here’s my pick of the most polished and opulent from 2012…
Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford – A match made in heaven. The chicest, cleanest look of the night.
Michelle Williams in Louis Vuitton – Finally! The girl gets it right. Beautiful dress, but lose the clutch.
Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace – Ange’s failsafe black but with a leggy edge. Squint and she could be Megan Fox.
Rooney Mara in Givenchy Couture – This chick is nailing the red carpet again and again. Love the contrast of the soft floaty gown with her stark black hair and red lip.
Rose Byrne in Vivienne Westwood – Sequins, bob, statement earring. Beautiful.
Kristen Wiig in J. Mendel – Who doesn’t love voluminous layers of tulle? The black nail polish was a great touch too.
Milla Jovovich in Ellie Saab Couture – Embellished to the hilt! Surely this is how red carpet dressing should be done?
Diane Kruger in Calvin Klein – My favourite red carpet style icon skipped the actual ceremony and headed straight for the Vanity Fair after-party. Diane never puts a foot wrong. This is what I’d wear if I was an A-list actress.
Kate Bosworth in Prabal Gurung – Another Vanity Fair party winner. I like that Kate kept her accessories and hair ultra-minimal – this dress needs no accompaniment.
