NICHOLAS KIRKWOOD’S NEW COLLECTION

At the Starworks press day last week I spotted Nicholas Kirkwood’s latest collection.

At the risk of sounding very controversial indeed I’m going to admit that I actually prefer his flats. The nude lace-ups with silvery metallic toe are genius – the perfect solution to the dilemma of what to wear on your feet during such a miserable July. Of course in a perfect world it would be 28 degrees every day and I’d be donning the neon lace sandals, but what can ya do?

A TEN YEAR RELATIONSHIP & THEN YOU SPLIT

What a crazy few weeks it’s been. I’ve moved all my worldly possessions a couple of miles down the road to Bow (believe you me, transporting no less than 15 black bin liners full of clothes forces you to seriously examine your spending habits; not to mention your issues with hoarding) and last week the boyf and I went to Split (Croatia) to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. We probably won’t make it to our 11th – marking a decade of love with a trip to a city called ‘Split’ is surely tempting fate…I joke! I kid! It was as beautifully romantic as I could have ever wished it to be. Here’s hoping we last until we’re old and grey and decrepit. No doubt I’ll still be rocking aviators and my straw fedora then…

GOING TO THE CHAPEL…

So, next week me and my boy will be celebrating 10 years together. An entire decade has passed and although I sense that a proposal is some way off yet, I’ll admit that reaching such a huge milestone has definitely got me thinking…

Coincidently my favourite aptly named salon in all of London town, The Chapel in Islington, invited me to try out their Princess Experience (so named because it was inspired by the Royal Wedding, of course!) – a chance to let award winning experts create the perfect wedding day hair style.

As ever their service was second to none – Champagne, chocolate, coffee table fashion books and step-by-step instruction on how to create the look at home from my lovely stylist Kim. Here’s the gist:

1. Dry the hair  in sections with a barrel brush, being sure to twist and twirl each layer before letting it sit and cool. When complete it will look like this:

2. Then sweep hair to the side and start pinning sections away from the face:

3. Pin wherever you feel it’s needed. Crossing the pins over one another will keep them secure.

4. Finally, spray the living daylights out of it with Elnett.

Eventually (if you’re as good as Kim) you’ll get something like this:

Voilà! The perfect up-do.

Of course my rudimentary instructions don’t do justice to a pampering session with Kim or one of The Chapel’s other stylists. Trust me, the Princess Experience is perfect for brides to be, maids of honour and thunder-stealing guests alike. I’m going to say they easily did a better job than Sam McKnight managed on Kate Moss’s tresses over the weekend.

It’s £50 for an hour and you can book by calling the salon on 0207 5200 460 or dropping them an email at islington@thechapel.co.uk.

God knows I could be waiting another decade, but when the time does finally come at least I’ll be 100% sure of who’ll be doing my hair.

Big thanks to Kim & The Chapel for your generosity and a look that turned heads on my way home (even if I say so myself).
